Mission Statement

The Firebird Foundation has the mission to be:

  • in the service of indigenous peoples in their efforts to record their arts and sciences
  • creating a world renowned archive of oral literature and traditional ecological knowledge for the use of indigenous peoples and the scholars who work with them
  • forwarding anthropological and traditional ecological knowledge research and disseminating the results
  • increasing our understanding of the human condition as it is expressed at various stages of socio-cultural integration and among various ethnic and indigenous groups;
  • enlarging our understanding of the impact that modern society has on indigenous peoples and their cultures, peoples who have now become peripheralized, minority ethnic groups;
  • increasing our understanding of the interrelationship between all human societies and their environments

and

 

through these efforts contributing to the dignity of peoples whose cultures are threatened and thereby forwarding their human rights.
